Who was Isaiah?
Isaiah was a prophet who lived in Jerusalem between the seventh and eighth centuries BCE. He received revelations from God about the approaching judgment and restoration of Israel and the nations.
The name Isaiah literally means “The Lord saves.”

Isaiah lived during some of the most turbulent days in Israel’s history. He saw the Assyrian invasion of the northern kingdom of Israel, and the rise of Babylon as a threat to the southern kingdom of Judah.

As Isaiah’s name suggests, salvation is a major theme of his message. He foresaw and prophesied about the coming Messiah (Jesus). He also spoke of God’s end-time plans for Israel and the nations, when Israel would showcase the glory of God and the nations would flock to the mountain of the Lord in Jerusalem.
