The Crisis in Gaza: A Time for Action and not just Words

I have written a number of times on this blog about my grief over the suffering of innocent people in Gaza during this terrible and protracted war.

Now, as stories and photos are coming out about Gazan people starving to death – mainly infants and children – I have to write to add my voice to an already large group of people both within Israel and across the world saying that this humanitarian crisis demands action and not just words.

People are pointing the finger at each other and arguments are going on about who is to blame for this crisis. Hamas is still refusing to release the Israeli hostages and is creating obstacles to a ceasefire deal. The current round of talks is stalling. I have my own thoughts about all of this, but to be honest, none of these really matter right now.

Entering into arguments about rights and wrongs and who’s to blame will not feed starving children. What is needed now is concrete and coordinated action.

At this stage, what matters more than any war aim is to free the Israeli hostages from captivity and ensure that the civilian population of Gaza has access to food.
